Happy Weekend!

I don’t know about you all but I was so ready for the weekend to come this week, like around Wednesday.

And because it is still Election season, and even worse it’s this miserable, awful, horrible, no good, very bad, Election season, that desire to have the weekend come is even greater. I say this even though I know nothing awaits me during the weekend except more work. (Someone, quick! Build me a time machine so I don’t decide politics is a good idea for a career. Please. I will pay you in bread. Or gum. Your choice). But hey, wishing for the weekend means we  are getting closer to all of this being over and to that, I say we cheers some pumpkin spice lattes.

Because seriously, has there ever been an election that we want to end more than this one? I feel like we’ve all been a part of a slow motion 15 car pile up and every day another car slams into the mess.  Please, let it end, America (and probably the rest of the world) is saying in 1 large Greek chorus in the back ground of every debate/ad/mailer/talking head that won’t stop talking.

But, in other non-depressing news, it’s Halloween. Which basically means nothing to me since I’m old and married and no longer pretend to make an effort to find a clever/cute/kinda sexy but not too sexy costume. But, it does mean that other non-childless people dress up their children and I’m all for seeing that cuteness. Anyone have exciting plans?

To send you all into the weekend with some thoughts that don’t involve anything political, I’m sharing some fun stuff I’ve seen around the web from the past few weeks. Hope you enjoy!

Tiny pancakes + kittens = I think this post was written just for me.

To any of you marrieds thinking maybe you’re missing out on dating, just read this depressing story and be thankful for your farting husband.

15 Recipes for cinnamon lovers. Or a complete list of your carb intake for the year. Bread lovers and those that dream about bread, you’re welcome.

I’ve never been more annoyed with an article than this one. I guess he doesn’t know anyone who dated long enough to delve into “their complexities” pre-marriage. Because seriously.

Puppets usually creep me out but the Golden Girls as puppets? Kind of okay for some reason.

Ice cream ramen sounds just disgusting enough to work. 2 please.

In my dreams, I can do calligraphy like this.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Kate Middleton is my style icon, now, forever and always.

If any of you went to a Luke’s Diner when it popped up earlier this month, I’m officially jealous.

Hello Kitty wine?! Seriously curious what it tastes like. I’m going with pink.

Challenge accepted. #eatallthecheese

Queen Ina’s date night tips.

What is the consensus around glitter lips? Looks cool but also, grainy. Right?

How to make mulled cider in the slow cooker. Vital fall reading.

Happy weekend everyone!

Happy Friday!

So, can we all just take a moment and mourn that the Olympics is ending this weekend? I don’t know about you all but I’ve felt like the Olympics is totally what got me through these past weeks.  It’s been so hot  and miserable outside, it’s all I can do to watch people achieving insane athletic feats and think, man am I glad I’m not them.

But seriously, how the heck are y’all? It’s been awhile since I’ve here and I think that is probably the new normal for me blog wise. It makes these little posts all the more sweeter, right?  I hope you all are about to have a fabulous weekend and if you are like me, will have some extra tissues to mourn the closing ceremonies on Sunday. To ease some of our transition into an Olympic-less existence,  I’ll share with you some fun stuff I’ve seen on the web lately:

This woman is my new hero.

Thoughts on if beer gelatin shots would be good or gross?  I’m intrigued but also slightly grossed out at the thought of jiggly beer.

This story is truly inspiring. I only wish I could keep my cool like those people did. I completely understand not having cash and would probably use wine as a replacement, I mean who has cash these days, honestly?

America, this is why you’re fat.

This Chinese swimmer keeps it real and I love it. Okay, can we just talk about how Chinese tampons are called Crimson Jade Cool? A-maz-ing!

15 ways to use your slow cooker this summer. Required reading for those of us too lazy/busy/just don’t feel like  cooking.

10 Things I learned from re-watching Saved by the Bell. For those of you that watched this show religiously as a kid (like me ) this ones for you.

12 star crossed facts about Romeo and  Juliet. I truly love this movie even if it is my least favorite Shakespearian play because the soundtrack, seriously so good.

10 easy cocktail recipes. Because summertime = cocktails, am I right?

Have the best weekend!! And hope to make ti back here sooner than 3 weeks from now!

Away we go: Happy Holiday Weekend!

I can nearly hear all of you crying from my lack of blogging.  Apparently, having a job again makes it super difficult for me to blog. And to make stuff. And my cooking has also taken a serious hit.  Basically, balancing life is hard, yo. I haven’t given up on my incessant reading though. I seriously wake up 2 hours early so I can have an hour to read and an hour to exercise. Because I’m a nerdy loser who is also concerned about staying fit.

I can’t promise I will get this blogging thing figured out but in the meantime,  I thought I’d share an update on this lovely Friday before a holiday weekend. This is going to be a super long, awesome, amazing adventure of a 4th for us because the Texan and I are going to SCOTLAND for a week. And ALL MY EXCITEMENT IS COMING OUT IN CAPS. Because seriously, the place we are staying is a legit palace!!  And we are going to traipsing around the highlands in newly purchased REI hiking gear ( For the record, I’ve hiked a lot but never bought hiking pants until now and they are so comfortable I might wear them everyday. Pricey but totally worth it.) Being married is great for loads of reasons but going on adventures together is super high on my list.

I hope that all of you are having a grand old time this weekend, kicking up your heels and making sure to avoid any stray sparks from fireworks. Here is a compilation of the cool stuff I’ve seen around the web for the past few weeks:

Michelle Obama tells you how to deal with haters. She is so wise and wonderful. I’mma gonna miss her.

Blue wine is coming to America. Seriously, just no. Here’s some free advice for y’all: drinks that are unnaturally bright are usually the same ones that will make feel like this the next day.

Women having a terrible time at parties in art. “oh. you found us. you found us with your guitar. hey guys he found us and brought his guitar with him.” Pretty sure that picture/caption is taken from my freshman year of college.

Not sure what dessert to make for the 4th? The kitchn has you covered. So much goodness.

They are coming out with a Wicked movie!! Let’s all start practicing singing defying gravity and maybe by the time they get this together we’ll be able to do it (okay, prob not).

Sassy Coffee Mugs: You had me at sass. And coffee. Basically my two favorite things.

10 perfect potato salad recipes for the 4th. I would totally make one of these if I were going to be here. But chances are I’ll likely eating haggis on the 4th (vom)

This Kate Middleton dress is everything. And it probably kinda mean but it makes me feel better knowing that she can’t cook–turns out she is a human and not some goddess come to earth after all.

15 facts about Ferris Bueller’s Day Off Anthony Michael Hall as Ferris? No. He will always be the nerd that asked for Molly Ringwald’s undies, so un-Ferris like.

Have the best weekend lovelies! xo

Have a GREAT Weekend!

You guys, I just finished my first honest to goodness week of work in like, forever and let me tell you…. It was okay. I feel very lucky to have found a job I can do from home. But also, you have to be disciplined, yo. I learned early in the week that getting properly dressed is important to working. Because being in sweats with no make up actually makes working like a billion, million times harder because your brain is saying, hey man why are we working, look at us? We’re disgusting. Let’s wallow. And, my head is all like, naw, must keep working, must impress new bosses . It’s not fun. And now, I’ma gonna eat some pizza, because I totally earned it. Through brain work.

So, what are your plans for this weekend? We are going to try a new tapas with some friends  because seriously, I haven’t met  a tapa I don’t like. Tapa? More like Yes-a, I’m a gonna eat that and not feel guilty because it’s so small. Hooray for Tapas, hooray for Spain. Whatever you are doing this weekend, I hope it’s fantastic. And ideally includes small food you can eat without guilt.

Here is a list of stuff I saw on the interwebs I thought was cool this week:

Poll: birthday cake croissants: good or gross? I’m leaning towards gross because I’m a croissant purist but birthday cake is almost always good so maybe even?

15 easy DIY totes for summer: I totes love all of these. Ha, see what I did there?

How to be Happier: Yes to this, yes to simple but appealing design, yes to not feeling happ(ier)

Scandinavian doll house kitchen: Is it like, a sign that you’ve failed at life when you dream of your kitchen being like a doll house kitchen? The hood! The tile! The tiny cuteness. OMG.

Cucumber Vodka Soda: You had me at its like drinking salad.

Loads of pretty, floral date dresses: because who doesn’t want to wear those all summer long, for real.

Mango fro-yo: putting this first on my list for when I actually buy an ice cream maker. Mango forever!

Owls get fired from Harry Potter: Maybe the world just isn’t ready for real play life owls.

Happy, happy weekend!!

Happy Happy Weekend!

Hello! It’s Friday! Which for some of us means we have 2 days where no one is going to ask us to do anything. Well, except for you parents. That pretty much never ends for you. I’ve been a little absent here (sorry!) because I’ve been having loads of fun traveling to see friends and also, um I got a job? I’ll write more about it next week, it’s exciting! Money! And working for women. What more can I want?

I hope I haven’t lost every one of my readers in my absence. Seriously, come back. Commmeee baccckkkkkk. There is still a lot of sass waiting for you. And cookies. And maybe some wlushies  (wine + slushie, remember?) if you’re into that sort of thing.

So, what are your plans this weekend? Anything exciting? The Texan and I have basically seen each other for less than 12 waking hours this week which is very unusual for us so we’ll be spending quality time together doing a whole lot of nothing. I really want to go see Love and Friendship and since the Texan has a lifelong crush on Kate Beckinsale I think I’ll be able to convince him.

No matter what you are doing this weekend I hope it is just grand. And maybe includes a cinnamon roll because that always makes things better. Here are some fun things I saw around the web the past few weeks.

A Super Upsetting Cookbook about Sandwiches: This book sounds like it was made for me. You had me at YA book/first person diatribes.

These cakes are works of art, I can’t stop looking at them. Do you think they taste as good as they look?

In the most disgusting news since all those stories about Trumps tiny hands, KFC is releasing edible nail polish. Why, just why? If they are going to make edible nail polish it should be chocolate, everyone knows that. Or bacon. No wait, chocolate bacon!

The tragic history of RC Cola. I love mental floss. And reading random stories. So this is only for you nerds out there that like that sort of thing too.

OMG there is now an ice cream bar that cures hang overs! I’m not sure I believe in this or in anything that isn’t a NYC egg and cheese to cure hang overs (oh how I miss thee!)

For you Friends fans out there, 2 exciting news items. One, they figured out who played ugly naked guy so we can all rest easy. And two, here’s Matt LeBlac saying how you doin’ and making Kahlessi giggle. You’re welcome.

Please, please someone buy me this dragon candle. Thanks.

23 times when Prince Harry was super cute with kids. I love these so much. Harry forever.

3 unexpected ways to use cake mix. I can totally see the waffles and fudge being delicious. But as breading for chicken? I’m skeptical.

Happy, Happy weekend to all, and to all a good night! xo!

Have a rad weekend

Yayy it’s Friday! I got inspired to wish you all a RAD weekend since we all know rad is an underutilized word in 2016 and that needs to be rectified immediately.

What are you up to this weekend? By the time you read this, I will  be in a plane, feeling annoyed that I am awake so early and have a layover but SO HAPPY that I am going, going, back, back to Cali, Cali to visit my family this weekend in LA. I have been dreaming about tacos all week, I’m not even kidding. So excited to be in a real city where the favorite past time isn’t slots or bowling. I feel like I’m coming out of exile, just for a few days, and it is grand.

To send you off in style, here are some totally radical things I saw on the internet this week:

Some stupid principal thinks Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings cause brain damage. I’m down with the theory that this dude is actually Voldemort, whose with me?

This kinda makes me feel old: it’s the 30th anniversary of Top Gun. Remember when people used to think Tom Cruise was hot?

15 wine slushies you need to drink outside this summer. Wine + slushie = yes. But we should totally call them wlushies.

How to be a boss–wise words from some wise ladies. Feeling Mindy Kaling’s quote 100%.

Gilmore Girls quotes for real life. At least twice this weekend I’m going to try to incorporate “Oy with the Poodles already” in conversation.

The best way to cut a mango. Seriously, helpful. Cutting mangos is hard yo.

8 snacks you can make with peanut butter. I’m on team PB forever. For-ev-er. For-evvvvverrrr

The White House Bedroom Through the Years.  Please, please can I have the  Jackie room in my house? So pretty.

Have a great weekend!

Funny-Friday-Meme-18-13

Hooray, we’ve made it to Friday! What are your plans for this weekend? Anything but work? Yes, sounds like a good plan to me.

The Texan and I are going to go out with friends tonight at one of the few fancy places in town that doesn’t have slot machines–holla! I feel like there are lots of events happening this weekend. One, its derby weekend so this is your excuse to wear fancy hats and drink juleps (if you need one). Oh, and watch horses race because it is awesome.  And two, it’s mothers day so at minimum I hope you are giving your mother a call but really you should be arranging some thoughtful gift/meal because she’s totally earned it. Whatever you are up to, I hope it is just grand.

Here are some cool links I saw around the web this week:

15 fresh flower gifts for Mother’s Day: For those of you who have procrastinated on your mothers day gift.

These rose shaped potatoes look both adorable and delicious.

What do you think about bleach tie dye?  I’m concerned that breathing bleach fumes might kill us all but that dress is pretty cool. Tough call.

Mint Julep everything. For those of you that want more mint julep-y goodness, those cupcakes look kind of amazing.

What do you think about Justin Timberlake’s new song? I kind of love it.

OMG you guys, there is going to be a Center Stage sequel. And it will be on lifetime so 80% chance it will be cheesy as all get out. I’m not sure we can be friends if you don’t love Center Stage, the ballet, the music. The red toe shoes!

21 reasons everyone should love Sixteen Candles: This is basically an excuse to look at gifs from one of the greatest movies of all time, so you’re welcome.

How to make classic coffee cake: I love coffee, I love cake, I love this link. Pretty sure I’m making this tomorrow.

Have a FANTASTIC weekend!! xo

It’s the Freakin’ Weekend!

Hooray, you’ve made it to the weekend! I just got back from a glorious outdoor run where I listened to an old ipod of mine I found and you guys, can we just talk about how wonderful music was circa 2000-2007? I forgot about how amazing R. Kelly  can make weekends feel. I really think I might want to start a club that only plays music from the early ’00–because let’s face it, that would be awesome. Maybe we can throw in a 90’s night for good measure.  Whose with me?

In other news, obviously I really fell off the blogging wagon this week and I’m sure you are all very sad for it. No great excuse except that sickness hit our house therefore nothing really blog worthy happened. C’est la vie.

Do you have any fun plans for the weekend? I am going to try and hit up a new brunch spot in town which always makes me happy and continue reading the Fiery Cross because I’m addicted.  Whatever you are up to, I hope that it includes at least one moment where you listen to Remix to Ignition and bounce, bounce, bounce.

Here’s some fun links I saw around the web this week:

8 awesome podcasts: I really love me some podcasts and absolutely want to listen to every one on this list.

Would you try seltzer in your scrambled eggs? I’m kinda skeptical but am totally going to try this out over the weekend.

This Harry Potter Wall is amazing: I am super impressed with how straight she got those lines. But, I think if I were doing it I might pick a different page–too much Dursley for me.

Ask a French Girl:  This lady has so much wisdom. Repeat after me, you don’t have to have it all under perfect control.

12 ways to commemorate your travels: I love the idea of celebrating your travels around your house.

Does anyone want to tour the world with me just to eat breakfast? Because this list, seriously. I want to try everything.

Poll: is a solid gold toilet art? I vote no. Also, I bet you anything there will be a line out the door to use this loo.

House shaped bed for guests: I think this is kinda genius but there is no way the Texan would fit in it.

Cucumber/Coconut eye masks: These look heavenly.

15 easy dinners when you don’t feel like cooking: this will def come in handy over the summer when turning on your oven is the worst.

Happy, happy weekend to all!! xo

Have a lovely weekend!

93ab36e938697e634fbcacdd96c075a0

Yay, we’ve all made it to the weekend. Do you have any exciting plans? I feel like I’m going to spend most of it trying to comprehend a world without Prince in it. So sad. So lacking in blouses. But, in addition to listening to Purple Rain on repeat, we are going to watch Game of Thrones which I’m so excited for and also maybe go see the Jungle Book (even though animals that talk kind of freak me out).  Whatever you are up to, I hope it includes dancing your life away like it’s 1999. It’s what he would want.

Here are some fun links I saw around the web this week:

What’s in Prince’s fridge? I know there are like a million stories about Prince on your newsfeed but chances are most don’t  include his love for Dunkaroos.

Dave Chappelle as Prince is seriously everything.  Game Blouses.

Simple rules for Croques Madame/Monsieur Seriously you guys, I’ve been having dreams about this sandwich, must make it this weekend.

Prince Harry and William get in a light saber fight. Team Harry forever.

Speaking of royals, the Queen turned 90 this week and rocked a fab green suit like it was nothing. She’s the best.

Given what a spaz I am in photos, I am seriously impressed by Posh’s ability to nail this perfect sassy hip every time. (She will always be Posh to me. Zizga zig-ah!)

Whipped Asparagus Pesto spread  For realsies, this looks delicious.

Woman Double Fisting Pizza on kiss cam is an American Hero. Also, she needs a cooler friend because that girl seems kinda embarrassed.

Squeee tiny tree houses for your houseplants. I want this so much!

Prettiest deserts to make this spring. I’m totally making a lemon meringue pie this afternoon and that basil mint coconut cream pie is going on my list.

Julia Child’s trick for perfect poached egg. I’ve found Julia is rarely wrong (except for all the love for aspics, ew).

Hope you have a lovely weekend!!

Have a Wonderful Weekend!

862f6fd0fa7d4ded199ae46de94a25c08f3022fbf3483b0204cc8cab112a2375

Hooray, it’s Friday! What are you up to this lovely spring weekend? The Texan and I are making a serious attempt at assimilating to our local culture by going bowling tonight with friends. I am not exactly confident in my ability to bowl, but I plan to handle it humbly when I claim Gutter Ball Queen title tonight.  Whatever you are up to, I hope it is at least as grand as bowling on a Friday night in a casino.

Here are some fun links I saw around the web this week:

Grown up versions of your favorite teen decorating trends: I absolutely want that painted night sky bathroom. Painted with glow in the dark paint.

30 recipes you should know by 30: This is a great list and I think applies to everyone, even those already past 30 who haven’t mastered no knead bread yet (me).

40 stunning bathrooms with incredible views: I fantasize constantly about having an amazing bathtub. But, I’m  afraid I would end up like Margot Tennebaum and never leave the bathroom.

15 memorizing pottery videos: Feeling stressed? Just zone out and watch these videos because they are amazing.

12 Actors who got real about roles they did for money: None of these are very surprising (Jaws: Revenge was seriously a movie?)except for the the heart breaking revelation that Alec Guinness hated being Obi Wan. Saddest thing I read this week.

Drink more water with these refreshers: Seriously, I love flavored water. Currently have the basil/orange combo in my fridge and it is everything.

5 ways to update thrift store art: It’s posts like this that make me wish my husband appreciated quirky art more.

10 fav 90’s movies on Netflix: I love 90’s movies and want to watch everything on this list though I’m not sure I can subject myself to My Father, The Hero. I remember finding it creepy when I was a kid, I feel like that feeling will get worse.

Household tips for finding lost things: This list is pretty amazing and full of a lot of common sense ideas that I will probably be too lazy to do.

Whoa, these almond joy bites look amazing.

Have an amazing weekend full of white Russians and inner peace.
